A Natural On-Camera

Recently, 16-year old Missy Franklin had a breakout world-class swimming performance that will be talked about for years to come as she won 2 Gold, 1 Silver & 1 Bronze medals at the FINA World Championship games in Shanghai.

For anyone interested in communications and the performance of non-professionals On Camera, Miss Missy was equally impressive. NBC Sports invited the teen star to be interviewed with hosts Ted Robinson and former swim champ Rowdy Gaines. For the casual viewer, the feeling was that of sitting across a table from the young, effervescent star. She was naturally comfortable answering questions and often looked directly into camera.

Has she had training? I don’t know but one trend I see today is that many of the younger generation are much more at ease On Camera.

Her enthusiasm was genuine and she was so natural that I was reminded of Roger Ailes’ old axiom: YOU are the message!
